With the very first formation and
invention of technology one could foresee the convergence of media. By its nature technology is keep
evolving which is the driving force for convergence. Technology is a tool with which humans operate to
communicate to each other. These
communications could be one on one - on a personal level, or on a bigger scale - broadcasting to many. The latest
technology allows not only broadcast and communicate the message in one
direction rather for the whole audience to participate. New technology has tools that allows
everybody contribute their input publicly and immediately.
Society uses the web as a tool to
connect and also to share information.
Many use social media in the way as professional journalist might use
for the exception not being paid and motivated just by inner creativity as well
for a good nature of being happy and satisfied just by sharing. Some use social media not only sell/buy
rather to exchange items and services.
It might be possible to build “global virtual village” (Marshal McLuhan)
where society could minimize the use of “hard” money or money in general.
New technology also leads society
to rethink the schooling system.
Younger members of society tend to gravitate to new technology as an
exciting source for their creative and active mind. However, if misused, hours that are spent by digital devices
could be wasteful to some degree.
Experts in an electronic game world as Jane McGonigal and Katie Salen suggest
that games could be designed for students to learn the same subjects as math,
science and others in an interactive way.
These experts arguing society’s stereotypical view on electronic games as
a wasteful time and addiction, which is not the case in the schooling system,
they suggest. In most cases
highly educated artistically creative people design these games.
Catalog: The Art of Video Games
According to Smithsonian Museum
that had an exhibition “The Art of Video Games” in 2012, video games is another
form of art that is interactive.
One might suggest that younger generation are involved in contemporary
interactive art form that could also be informative and educational.
