The "K" in K-Pop.

What do you get when you get inspiration from western boy band/girl groups of the 90s era and bring them to the 21st century in Korea?

That's right. K-Pop.

Just like great marketing, and good advertisement strategies with repetitive and catchy jingles, you can find many of those in K-Pop. Alongside the "stuck-in-my-head" songs, are the very pretty and attractive artists behind the music. These K-Pop stars, also known as "idols", have garnered and influenced the youth as well as the economy and tourism departments of South Korea, and even Asia. It's almost like K-Pop paved the way for putting Asians in mainstream (western) media during these modern times.

Looking at a broader view, K-Pop is part of what is known as the "Hallyu wave", which means the "Korean wave". The term specifically means the influx and rise of Korean entertainment on a global scale. From movies to television shows, and the celebrities in them, they've all made a positive impact across the country, Asia, and the global crowd. Because of the world wide web, specifically YouTube, the young and old netizens discovered this particular genre of entertainment booming in Asia.

However, it's not always bubble gum pop and "Gangnam Style"s in the realm of K-Pop.

Digging deeper inside, there's the other side of Korean entertainment that fans and insiders of the business really know - that's the struggles they face in order to become the singer/rapper - idol they want to be.

With having a vlog as my medium, and also the knowledge of being part of the editorial team for a Korean entertainment news site, I will delve deeper into what REALLY makes K-Pop and what are the problems behind the glitz and glamour. Topics such as their training period - these idols train for as little as a month to as long as ten years - as well as the double standards female and male idols face after debuting on stage. This will also lead into the influence of South Korean youth, how plastic surgery becomes an ongoing trend for young females, and some males.

Using resources such as entertainment insiders, and if possible artists in the business, and fans, I will create a short documentary-like vlog that will show the different perspectives of how people view the insides of this popular industry.
